Fujitsu Dex 720 / 740 / 760 Toner Cartridges
DOC-0222

Overview

The Fujitsu Dex 720 laser engine is a 300 dpi, 8 ppm laser used in plain paper fax machines. This engine uses both an OPC cartridge (Part # 740DR), and a toner cartridge (Part # B-740). The toner cartridge comes complete with a felt wand and a collection bottle. The remanufacturing process is different for this cartridge in that the remaining toner/carrier mixture is not removed. The new toner is added to the remaining mixture, and the cartridge sealed up. The carrier will usually last for 3 to 4 cycles, before it wears out and starts to print light. If by mistake, the old toner/carrier mixture was vacuumed out, the cartridge will still work but it print extremely light. Installing the seals in this cartridge is somewhat complicated. If the cartridge is going to be hand delivered, the seals are not needed. Simply cut a small hole in the toner cover, add the new toner, and seal it up!

Required Tools
  • Razor Blade Knife

  • Toner approved vacuum

WARNING: Always wear safety goggles and breathing mask when working with or around toner. Do not disperse the toner into the air. Use approved toner vacuums and filters at all times.

  • Approved Vacuum systems:

Toner approved vacuum. The Atrix HCTV toner Vac, or the Atrix AAAOmegas Toner Vac. Some type of approved toner vacuuming system is important because toner consists of very fine particles that will pass right through a normal vacuum filter, and blow out the exhaust, creating a real mess.

Required Supplies
  • 1 720-RK Toner Recharge KIT

  • Scotch Tape

  • Masking Tape

Prepare Work Area
  1. Before proceeding with the following procedure you should have a work area available with approximately 4’ x 3’ clear space. It should be covered with some disposable paper since toner will spill on this area. It is recommended that brown craft paper be used and taped to the work area. This will hold the paper in place when trying to vacuum toner from the paper.

  2. A garbage can with a strong plastic liner should be adjacent to the work area to empty used toner. It should be at least 2’ deep to prevent toner from clouding
up and over the top of the bag during disposal.

  3. Have a few rags available and some disposable paper towels. TM-40 Toner Magnets are perfect for this.

  4. The work area should be capable of being ventilated, if by accident toner becomes dispersed into the air. An exhaust fan in one window is recommended for ventilation.

If the circulation of air in the work area room is combined with other rooms in the building, toner dust may be carried into the other rooms. A separate and isolate HVAC system is recommended for the work area room.

These instructions should be read in their entirety before proceeding with the recharge process.

Recharging Your Cartridge

Place the cartridge on a flat surface with the green handle facing up.

  1. To remove the cover, grasp the cover on one end, then grasp the other end. A good amount of force is required to remove the cover, especially the first time.
You will hear a “crack” when it releases.

  2. With the cover removed you will see the toner compartment sealed with plastic. Using a razor knife cut along the side nearest the magnetic roller. Then down
each side. Do not cut all the way back to the seal in the back of the cartridge. It is best to preserve the seal to prevent leakage.

NOTE: If you are hand delivering this cartridge, the seals are not necessary. Just cut a small hole in the toner cover, and add the new toner. Cover the hole with
tape, and re- install the top cover.

  3. DO NOT CLEAN OFF THE MAGNETIC ROLLER OR CLEAN THE HOPPER OUT as it contains the carrier. Once the carrier is removed the
cartridge becomes useless. The magnetic roller is a very durable steel roll, but care should still be taken when handling it to avoid scratching the surface.

  4. Install the longer part of the seal at the bottom of the magnetic roller. With the foam strip facing down, slide the seal into the point where it squares off.

  5. Install the short part of the seal. Make sure that the instructions are readable on the left side. Push the seal all the way into the foam strip.

  6. Fill the hopper with one bottle of CP# 720 toner. Reseal the hopper with scotch tape.

  7. Remove the material covering the adhesive strip above the foam strip on the long piece of seal. Fold this end over and adhere it so that the top of the foam is even with the green plastic strip. Fold the excess material under, then bring the top piece over the bottom piece. Hold this together with one hand and replace the top
cover. Use a piece of masking tape to hold the seal parts together. Start at the top of the cover and move the masking tape to the bottom of the cartridge.
